Cancún
Quintana Roo
The Red de Monitoreo del Sargazo traffic-light map for June 29, 2026 showed excessive seaweed at Punta Cancún, Playa Gaviota Azul and Playa Chac Mool and abundant levels at Playa Marlín and Playa Ballenas, though Langosta, Tortugas and Caracol stayed green. Satellite updates from the University of South Florida show dense mats still in the approach corridor, with heavier pulses expected through July.
Playa del Carmen
Quintana Roo
The beach-by-beach map aggregating Red de Monitoreo data dated July 1, 2026 shows 13 of 14 monitored Playa del Carmen beaches at abundant-to-excessive levels (Punta Esmeralda excessive; Playacar and Xcalacoco abundant). The municipality has been on red-alert status during a record 2026 season, with mid-June webcams showing brown water along the main corridor.
Tulum
Quintana Roo
The Quintana Roo sargassum monitoring network's late-June 2026 semáforo shows Tulum's main beaches (Paraíso, Pescadores, Ruinas, Santa Fe, Punta Piedra) at the top "excessive" level, and La Jornada reported on June 28 that 92.5% of the state's monitored beaches were at excessive levels in what officials call the worst season on record.
Cozumel
Quintana Roo
The latest Red de Monitoreo del Sargazo semáforo relayed by sargazo.info (checked July 1, 2026) shows all monitored west-coast beaches from Punta Norte to Playa Mia and San Francisco in green, with only the four exposed east-coast beaches (Mezcalito, Punta Morena, Chumul, Chen Río) rated excessive. Live west-coast webcams confirm clear water along the hotel shore.
Akumal
Quintana Roo
HowIsTheSargassum's June 1 weekly report rated Akumal Heavy for six of seven days, and its June 10 satellite update forecast intensifying arrivals through July in what USF classifies as a possible record year. The Quintana Roo monitoring network had 65 of 140 beaches on red alert entering June, so a heavy call for July 1 is the best evidence-based estimate.
Isla Mujeres
Quintana Roo
The Quintana Roo sargassum semáforo published June 29, 2026 rated Playa Norte, Playa Centro, Punta Sur and Playa Mía green (low accumulation) with Isla Contoy blue (none), and independent trackers on July 1 report all monitored island beaches clean or minimal — a stark contrast to red-rated Tulum and much of the Riviera Maya.
